The FSC Amazon Business Encounter Team (FSC Brazil, FSC Netherlands, FSC Denmark and FSC International) are hosting the Amazon Business Encounter in Belém, Brazil on the 24 November 2023 to facilitate a forum about sustainable trade that supports responsible forest management in the Amazon Basin.

The event invites European timber importers, local sawmills, and forest managers to engage in conversation about deforestation free products, the importance of forest certification and the role of forest communities in the value chain. This will be a place to discuss trends and developments in the wood market, and a unique opportunity to meet FSC certified suppliers.

Trading Tropical Timber

Tropical forests are highly valued for their biodiversity and the role they play in supporting life on earth. These forests are also the source of beautiful tropical timber, which people love for its durability, weather-resistance, and aesthetics. FSC recognises the values of tropical natural forests and has set clear targets for increasing the uptake of FSC certification in tropical forest regions. One major contributor to the value of FSC certification in the tropics is trade connected to well managed forests. European timber importers included, who specialise in tropical timber, embrace FSC’s values and have joined the journey of raising awareness on sustainably sourced tropical timber.
